Season of the Haunted adds Disjunction, a game that is only available for Iron Banner: Rift and is set on Savathun’s Throne World. Rift and the map will be added to the main Crucible pool in Season 18, allowing you to play it more frequently and in more game styles. Iron Banner will also switch to Eruption mode.

According to Bungie, accumulating kills will force players to begin “Surging,” boosting the points earned and shortening cooldowns with each kill. A ‘Primed’ state that puts your team on The Hunt, reduces everyone’s cooldowns, and more is triggered after you reach five kills without dying. However, after fifteen seconds, if your Guardian doesn’t get another kill, it will explode.

But matchmaking will see the largest shift in the Crucible. According to a recent blog post from Bungie, the developer is aiming to integrate a loose kind of skill-based matchmaking where, following the evaluation of connection quality, the game would start to identify individuals with similar skill rankings. Through Season 19, this procedure will continue.

In its weekly blog post, Bungie has promised a midseason weaponry update, although it’s interesting to note that some of the modifications are being brought forward from Season 18. Among the significant alterations are improvements to the contentious airborne effectiveness stat, as well as adjustments to various categories of weapons.

The developers were kind enough to provide the following “TLDR” summary:


  • Improved baseline airborne accuracy and aim help for all Primary weapons as part of the Airborne Effectiveness update.
  • Some of the already existing bonuses have had a boost to their static airborne effectiveness added to them.
  • Increased the base amount of AE on a number of Exotic weapons.
  • Adjusted the stats of some Primary weapon subfamilies that were performing poorly in PvP.
  • Added damage to the pellet Shotgun when used in PvE.
  • In PvP, the amount of ammo that can be stored in each Special block has been increased for Glaives, Forerunner, and Eriana’s Vow.
  • In PvE, the flinch rate of Linear Fusion Rifles will no longer be boosted (will still receive increased flinch in PvP).


Adjusted the stats of certain Exotics in the PvP game to make them more balanced. Another minor adjustment, Bungie will modify patch note numbers beginning with Season 18 of the game. The beginning of the new season will coincide with the release of patch 6.2.0, and the designation for the patch number will henceforth be the same for both internal and player-facing patches.

According to Bungie, a mid-season patch may address the following, but some of these changes may be delayed until Season 19:

  • Eliminating some of the unpredictability in the shotgun spread
  • Reducing the efficiency of switching bows.
  • Improving the Trace Rifle’s overall usability.
  • We’d like to introduce you to the full-auto setting.
  • In PvP, the ability of Snipers to shoot through flinching will be decreased.
  • We are looking into making some minor, targeted adjustments to specific PvP outliers in order to achieve a more balanced gameplay experience.
  • Pulse Rifles having effectiveness that is outside of band.
  • High Impact Scout Rifle is simple to operate.
  • Simplicity of operation for the Precision Fusion Rifle.
  • Permitting interactions between Glaives and certain Exotic Armors that provide a bonus to melee attacks.
  • Corrections made to the Glaive’s hit detection.
  • Reworking several upgraded benefits.
  • Combining Spec modifications with the game’s standard perk system.

Following the release of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, the Bungie development team began the process of revising the game’s existing classes in order to make them more compatible with the Stasis system. Players received Void 3.0 in Season 16, and this was followed up with Solar 3.0 in Season 17. This implies that we will only receive Arc 3.0 in Season 18, which is currently scheduled to begin.
