Let’s Know About The New Policies Introduced By Elon Musk: Focus Is On The Content Moderation

Elon Musk Reveals New Twitter Policy

Ever since he seized control of the microblogging platform, Elon Musk has been attempting to revamp Twitter. Elon Musk, the new CEO of the firm, claims that the new Twitter policy promotes freedom of speech but not freedom of reach.

Twitter clarified its “Copypasta and Duplicate Content” policy today, outlining how the network attempts to thwart spam and duplicative content. To put things in perspective, copypasta refers to an effort made by numerous people to replicate something from an original source and spread it broadly.

The social media behemoth initially said in August 2020 that it will restrict the exposure of copypasta tweets, and it is now outlining what it deems to be a violation and what steps are taken to restrict the visibility of such violations.

An illustration of a violation is when multiple accounts or a single account tweets identical or almost similar content. A duplicate or copied-and-pasted tweet is another example that Twitter deems would “disrupt the experience of others.”

Retweets and tweets containing both original content and comments, as well as existing content, will not be subject to any visibility restrictions, according to Twitter.

Elon Musk Proposes New Twitter Policy

Twitter's New policy 2022

Twitter 2.0 is experiencing a mass exodus of resignations “Elon Musk, the company’s owner, on Friday unveiled new content moderation guidelines aimed at reducing hate speech and bad tweets on the social media behemoth. According to him, this is freedom of speech but not freedom of expression.

The new rule states that hateful or unfavourable tweets would be “deboosted and demonetized, “which basically implies that a user won’t see it unless they specifically hunt for them. These tweets would be found if a user conducted a relevant keyword search, just way it is on the internet. This only applies to a single tweet, not to the user account as a whole.

Twitter will not get any advertising or other forms of income on these specific tweets as a result of a demonetization policy.” Free speech is now allowed on Twitter, but not free reach.

Hateful or negative tweets will be max deboosted and demonetized, so Twitter won’t receive any advertising or other income. It’s no different from the rest of the Internet that you won’t find the tweet until you actively look for it “She tweeted.

Additionally, he stated that Twitter will be bringing back a number of contentious accounts that had been previously suspended or banned, but added that the firm had not yet made a decision about the account of former President Donald Trump.

Musk announced that the right-wing satirical website Babylon Bee and the contentious Canadian podcaster Jordan Peterson, who had both previously been barred from the platform, would have their accounts reinstated.

He also said that Kathy Griffin, a comedian who had her account suspended earlier this month for pretending to be Elon Musk, will have it restored, according to CNN.”The reinstated individuals are Jorden Peterson, Babylon Bee, and Kathie Griffin. Trump hasn’t made a choice yet, “She tweeted.

The contract was abruptly ended in July by Musk, who had long expressed interest in purchasing Twitter. By misrepresenting the quantity of spam and fraudulent bot accounts on its network, the Tesla CEO claimed that Twitter had broken the terms of their mutual purchase agreement. The US market had a significant fall when Musk announced the agreement cancellation.

Twitter later filed a lawsuit against Musk, accusing him of employing bots as a cover to back out of a transaction. Recently, Musk advanced the purchase of Twitter at the initially agreed-upon price of USD 54.20 per share.

Mass Twitter Resignations

More Than 3000 Employees resigned From Twitter

It is important to note that hundreds of resignations were posted on Twitter on Friday, a day after Elon Musk issued an ultimatum to his employees, telling them that they must either get ready for ‘extremely hardcore’ work or leave the company.

Following the fact that Musk had set the deadline for employees to respond to his “letter” for Thursday at 5:00 p.m. local time in New York, several employees took to Twitter to announce their resignations prior to the deadline being reached.

Notably, following the massive layoffs that took place after Musk took control of the company, Twitter had approximately 3,000 employees left. These layoffs represented approximately half of the company’s workforce.

Twitter Blue Tick Policy

Know Everything About The Twitter's Blue Tick Policy

Newly formed Twitter accounts must wait 90 days before they may sign up for the new Twitter Blue plan and become verified, according to a change in Twitter policy that was announced. As a result, spam and impersonation from verified accounts are probably avoided.

Twitter Blue subscriptions cannot be made for 90 days by newly created Twitter accounts. According to the company’s Twitter Blue FAQ page, “We may also impose waiting periods on new accounts in the future at our discretion without warning.”

Prior to this, the Elon Musk-led firm had only recently announced that new accounts created after November 9 won’t be able to purchase the $8 Twitter membership plan.

The outdated terms were released during the hasty deployment of Twitter Blue, which caused chaos and a flood of verified accounts to start impersonating businesses, celebrities, and sportsmen. Shares of businesses including Eli Lilly and Lockheed Martin fell as a result of falsely authenticated accounts tweeting inaccurate information.

The business forbids authenticated users from renaming themselves in order to prevent impersonation. Musk previously stated that premium accounts won’t retain the verified checkmark until the social network has verified that the new name complies with its policies. There isn’t a clear policy in place regarding it at the organisation, though.

The new premium plan on Twitter has put it in hot water. One the one hand, Musk has guaranteed that subscribers will receive priority on the notification tab, replies, and searches; the business briefly altered the verified notification tab’s location to put it in front of all alerts.

On the other side, it is evident from evaluating the preliminary findings of the verification rollout that it must combat spam and impersonation to stop more advertisers from leaving the site. So, last week, Musk decided to halt the introduction of Twitter Blue. On November 29, he also said he will restart the Twitter Blue initiative, but things can change quite quickly in the Elon universe.
