New cases for DI George “Geordie” Keating (Robson Green) and Reverend Will Davenport (Tom Brittney) to solve in Grantchester season 7 on PBS Masterpiece in the United States.
Season 7 takes place in the summer of 1959, just as the Swinging Sixties are beginning to take hold. Both Geordie and Will’s personal lives are in turmoil at the same time as they investigate murders and mayhem. Additionally, Grantchester star Tom Brittney makes his directorial debut this season, directing the third episode.
Reunited with “my Grantchester family” and “back in our happy place” are Tom’s words of encouragement. It has been a lifelong dream of mine to direct an episode of this series, and I can’t wait for the audience (and Robson) to see it (and also I can finally order him around!).”

A look at what’s going on in Grantchester Season 7
Season 7 of Grantchester begins in the hot summer of 1959, right in the middle of wedding season in the small Cambridgeshire town. While the Reverend Will Davenport performs holy matrimony, Detective Inspector Geordie Keating is hard at work looking into a number of murders that have occurred in the area.
Everyone, including Will, is contemplating the future as we approach the start of a new decade. However, there are still some mysteries to be solved and life-changing decisions to be made in Grantchester before the Swinging Sixties arrive.
Finale: Geordie Confronts His Past in “Grantchester” Season 6
On November 21, Grantchester’s tumultuous season came to an end. The mystery series’ sixth season came to a close with an episode in which Geordie (Robson Green) battled his inner demons and Will (Tom Brittney) pondered his place in God’s kingdom. The return to the vicarage of one of the show’s most beloved characters was also welcomed, though his future is still uncertain.
The Burmese prison camp where Geordie was imprisoned has been the subject of much speculation in Grantchester this season. The show’s murder-of-the-week details were finally revealed in the finale, as part of the show’s murder investigation.
Geordie and Will look into allegations of domestic violence against Rita Daltry (Michelle Greenidge), a well-known singer, and Gene Daltry, her husband and manager (Tristan Gemmill). Rita’s lawyer, Johnny (Shaun Richards), gets involved soon after, and it just so happens that Geordie’s fellow POW Johnny (Shaun Richards).
Geordie agrees to help Johnny disable the alarm he claims is keeping Rita from fleeing, despite his own reservations. Gene’s death, on the other hand, forces Geordie to face the fact that he’s in a situation of his own making. And the fact that he has a history with Johnny complicates things even more.
There were only two people left alive in the prison camp, and the detective confesses this to Will. Johnny, not Geordie, was Geordie’s only hope for survival as their captors approached. Geordie has been plagued by guilt ever since the incident, despite the fact that both men survived. When he realizes that Johnny had a hand in covering up Gene’s death at the hands of Rita, his guilt is magnified. A painful scene occurs when he returns his friend to prison after arresting him.
Even though the police inspector is finally coming to terms with his wartime experiences, he’s done irreparable damage to his marriage to Cathy in the process (Kacey Ainsworth). Will learns that she was afraid he would hit her during their most recent argument. She tells her husband at the end of the episode that they need some time apart. A broken-hearted man, he swears to Will’s aid that he will win her back someday.
Robert Green discusses Grantchester’s seventh season and the plight of Geordie’s character
“Robert Green” says: “At the beginning of the series, Geordie is adrift without the support of his family. While living with Will at the Vicarage, he feels as if he’s a fish out of water and isolated from Cathy and the children. A lot of room exists for the odd couple to act out.
Jack Lemmon plays Tom and Walter Matthau plays Geordie. Geordie’s situation lends itself to levity, but he is a shadow of his former self. When he realizes he’s almost a bachelor again, and has to try and win her back, he’s back to square one. There is nothing complicated about Geordie’s story—he first met and fell in love with Cathy, then she left him,
And now he must try to win her back. Will is the one person Geordie goes to for advice that he really shouldn’t. Throughout the series, there is a witty irony. When Geordie’s own marriage is in trouble, he offers Will relationship advice. “It’s not the notches on your bed Will, but the miles on your clock and you’ve never gotten out of the driveway,” Geordie says. With that, they begin to establish their relationship.
The pursuit of Maya by Will becomes a problem. Will is putting himself in danger, and Geordie’s life and career could be at risk as a result.”
