The latest FX mystery drama, Kindred, premiered on Hulu on December 13 to mostly positive reviews from viewers praising the show’s intriguing plot.
Inspired by Octavia E. Butler’s 1979 novel of the same name, this eight-part series will air on HBO.
The hit science fiction novel about a young woman named Dana who travels back in time and gets stuck in the early 1800s before being transported back to her world in 2016 has finally made it to television.
Further, Season 2 of Kindred will address every concern.
The conclusion of Season 1 will be discussed at length before moving on to Season 2’s plot details.
Season 1 Finale of Kindred
Throughout the course of the episode, we observed that Dana was having a hard time comprehending why she possessed the ability to travel across time in the past, why her mother was unable to escape the past, and why she had such a profound connection to Rufus. Because Rufus was the key to why she was getting dragged back in time, whenever he fell like his knife was in danger, she would get taken back to the 1800s to save him.
This happened every time he fell. And then when she felt like she was about to be hurt, that turned out to be the thing that would allow her to return to the present day she was living.
We learned in the series’ conclusion that Kevin, with whom she had travelled through time and who served as the primary romantic interest of the show, had a falling out with Tom, the owner of the land that they visited and the house that they were drawn to each and every time. Kevin had been the love interest of the show.
This subsequently resulted to Kevin and Dana being separated, which was a problem because they needed to be in communication with each other in order for them to return to the current day. As a consequence of Dana stealing Tom’s books and falsely accusing him of being unable to read, she was severely beaten by Tom as a kind of punishment. As a result, she feared for her life and ultimately returned to reality in 2016 without Kevin.

In Season 2 of Kindred, what will happen?
Jacobs-Jenkins mentioned during his interview with THR that, while producing the series, he examined Butler’s personal documents and earlier manuscripts, and that the author believed that she “never cracked” Kindred. This was something that Jacobs-Jenkins noted. “Well, it would be wonderful to sort of think about what she thought she didn’t crack about it,” I said to myself. Since we now have a larger canvas, is it possible for us to perform that restorative job in stages?
Based on the showrunner’s comments that he wants to divide the book into three or four parts, Season 2 will most likely centre on Chapter 4, “The Fight.” This is due to the fact that the first season will conclude around the same time that the book’s third chapter, “The Fall,” will reach its conclusion. In that part of the book, Dana leaves Kevin behind in 1815 for eight days in the modern world. When she returns to the plantation, five years have already passed in his chronology.
After Dana discovers that Rufus has lied to her about writing to Kevin, who has moved north after leaving Maryland, about her return to the plantation, she decides to go look for him. She has been unsuccessful and has given in to the pressure. Kevin is sent to the plantation to meet Dana, in contrast to what Rufus’s father did, which was to send Rufus to the plantation to meet Dana.
Their time apart seems to have changed their relationship (they’re married in the literary version), as the secure comfort of Kevin’s white privilege turns their dynamic on its head. This occurs once he eventually returns. In spite of this, he makes an attempt to take his wife with him and get away from the plantation, but Rufus stops them and threatens them with a revolver. Both Kevin and Dana are brought back to the present day in Los Angeles as it becomes clear that their lives are in imminent danger.

When might we expect to see the second season of The Kindred premiere on Netflix?
After FX picked up Kindred as a pilot in March 2021, they gave the series an eight-episode order in January 2022. “The pilot directed by Janicza Bravo is brilliant and we can’t wait to resume production with this incredibly talented and dedicated cast,” FX president Nick Grad said in a statement to Variety at the time. The filming process was well underway in June 2022, ahead of the December premiere.
Given that production schedule, fans could reasonably expect a second installment in late 2023, pending if and when the series is renewed.
Final Words:
There is no one who can predict what will take place in the absence of a formal renewal, but there is always room for hope. Keep an eye on this space for more information as it becomes available. When it comes to the question of when the show will come back, if a second season is authorised over the next few weeks, it should be back by the end of 2023.
The first season was picked up for production in January of 2022, and the premiere episode was broadcast in December of that same year. If everything continues to unfold in the same manner, the second season of Kindred might potentially premiere in the month of December 2023.
