Rivian said on Wednesday that it built and delivered 4,467 cars in the three months ending June 30 at its production site in Normal, Illinois.
Despite these results, Rivian thinks it is on schedule to meet its previously stated goal of producing 25,000 vehicles per year, the firm said in a statement.
Rivian built 2,553 automobiles and delivered 1,227 in the first quarter of 2022. Rivian’s R1T pickup vehicle, R1S SUV, and EDV commercial electric vans for Amazon are all included in that mix.
According to the data, Rivian has outperformed Tesla and other EV manufacturers so far this year. Tesla said on Saturday that its quarterly deliveries declined for the first time in two years, quarter over quarter.
Compared to the 310,048 electric cars shipped in the first quarter of the year, Tesla claimed it delivered 254,695 in the second quarter, an 18% decrease. Supplier restrictions and the COVID-19-induced shutdown of the company’s China Gigafactory have slowed growth, the carmaker claimed.
In 2022, Lucid expects to produce 12,000 to 14,000 cars, down from its initial target of 20,000.
Aiming to possess more than 10% of the worldwide market, Rivian, which went public late last year in one of the biggest IPOs in the history of the United States, said in May.
Adding a second shift to the facility in Normal, Illinois, is a major goal for the manufacturer this summer. A $5 billion plant in Georgia, which was given the state’s largest-ever incentives package of $1.5 billion, is also in the works.
