When Will The Blu-Ray Of Top Gun: Maverick Be Out?

Top Gun Maverick Release Date

Top Gun: Maverick is in cinemas now—and if Tom Cruise has his way, it will stay that way for a long time.

The Top Gun sequel was reportedly eyed by Netflix and Apple to go onto their streaming service, but its distributor Paramount refused their offer to make it available to watch online.

Tom Cruise (the film’s eponymous Maverick) is also a noted critic of shortened theatrical windows, which means that fans might be waiting longer than usual for Top Gun 2 to make it to streaming.

Since the first Top Gun came out 36 years ago, Tom Cruise is finally putting on his leather jacket and sunglasses, jumping on the back of a motorcycle, and speeding off into the distance. Cruise plays Pete “Maverick” Mitchell again. Mitchell is a cocky but skilled pilot who gets picked to go to TOPGUN, where some of the best pilots in the Navy go.

In the second book, Maverick is still a test pilot who tries to avoid getting promoted or moving up in the Navy. He is sent back to TOPGUN to teach a new group of graduates how to do a dangerous and secret mission. One of the students is Bradley Bradshaw, played by Miles Teller. He is the son of Goose, who used to be Maverick’s right-hand man. Maverick has to both prepare these pilots for what’s to come and face his own past.

Top Gun Maverick Blu-Ray Release Date

As a movie from Paramount Pictures, it will be on Paramount+ in all the places where that streaming service is already available (as well as places where it is coming soon like in the U.K.)

You can also watch the original Top Gun from 1986 on Paramount+. However, unlike Maverick, that movie is also on Netflix in the U.S.

Top Gun Maverick Release Date

A lot of places have said that the movie will be on Paramount+ 45 days after it comes out in theaters, but that’s not likely.

There are two ways of thinking about this: Paramount and Cruise. Naveen Chopra, the executive vice president and chief financial officer of Paramount, said at a recent summit that a 45-day theatrical window is the “default” for their movies. This means that Paramount movies show up on Paramount+ 45 days after they first come out in theaters in the U.S. So far, all of their big games, like Jackass Forever, Scream, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, have been made in this way.

The CFO explained why this was happening: “We like that it lets us get the vast majority of the money made at the box office. And then we can move that content to a streaming platform while it’s still new and fresh.”

It’s said, though, that Tom Cruise doesn’t like this shorter theater window. He is said to prefer the more common pre-pandemic window of 90 days because he likes traditional movies. This was said in an article in the Hollywood Reporter. It said that Cruise and Paramount were fighting over when another of his movies, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, would be shown in theaters (aka Mission: Impossible 7).

Even though the two sides may still be fighting over M:I 7, it looks like Cruise may have won the fight over Top Gun: Maverick.

Chopra chose the sequel as a movie that would not follow the 45-day rule at the meeting we just talked about. He said: “We still look at each situation on its own. There are some movies that are really meant to be seen in the theater. Maverick from Top Gun is a great example of this. You should go to a theater to see that movie, and it will be there for a longer time.”

How long? We don’t know. With a 45-day window, the movie would start playing on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. If Cruise gets his way and the movie gets a 90-day window, people won’t be able to watch it online until Friday, August 25.

Top Gun Maverick Budget – How Much It Cost To Make

In order to be called a box office success, Top Gun: Maverick needs to bring in a certain amount of money. The long-awaited sequel to the 1980s blockbuster Top Gun is finally ready for its premiere after numerous delays (many of which were caused by the COVID-19 pandemic). Tom Cruise returns to the character of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, the legendary Navy pilot who mentors a new generation of aviators.
